A great ethos

Joanne Proudman is part of the amazing catering team we have at Roseleigh and has a great ethos when it comes to preparing food for our residents.

“We never say no to any requests, after all we work in their home,” says Joanne.

Joanne, pictured left with fellow cook Nicola Finn, worked in the kitchen of another care home before thankfully joining Roseleigh in August 2021.

Her job, along with the other cooks and kitchen assistants, is to ensure our residents get good home-cooked food which is nutritionally balanced.

With menus changing every day, there’s always something different for our residents to choose and as mum-of-three Joanne explains they don’t necessarily order what you would expect.

“Tastes have changed even among older people so they are now just as likely to order a chili-con-carne, Chinese or a curry than they will a quiche,” she says.

“The main thing is we give them a choice.”

Joanne, who also has five grandchildren, says effectively residents eat every two hours, starting with breakfast in the morning, followed by a tea trolley with cakes and biscuits, then lunch, then another trolley, followed by tea , and then something for supper.

“Our job is to make sure they eat as much as they can to keep their strength up, and if something isn’t on the menu and they ask for it, we always do our best to do it for them.”
