It’s a fun, family home with a special feel.”
Those who are the words of Kay Rushworth when asked to describe St John’s House.
And as Kay has worked at the home for almost 20 years, who are we to argue?
Kay is our Home Manager, responsible for the day-to-day running of the home which she knows intimately given her long service.
Whilst most teenagers of that age were doing jobs delivering newspapers, or sweeping floors in hairdressing salons to earn a little bit of money, Kay opted to work in a care home on her Saturdays.
She enjoyed it so much that she started working there permanently when she was 16 and over 30 years later and it’s still the only career for her.
Kay joined St John’s House as a Senior Carer in 2005, became our Deputy Manager around five years ago and Manager in December 2024.
“It’s a very fun, special family home with lovely residents,” says Kay.
“Having been her so long it’s an honour and privilege to now be Manager of St John’s House.”
In her spare time, mum-of-two Kay enjoys spending time with her family, supporting her mum and finding new places to walk.
