Given her career history, the title Home Comforts Manager couldn’t be more apt for Jayne Lavery.
As the name suggests, Jayne is responsible for ensuring the resident experience at The Millings and St John’s House is second to none and that they remain safe and secure at all times.
That can entail everything from ensuring the maintenance team are keeping on top of their jobs each day, through to overseeing tests on electrical equipment and water sampling.
“It’s basically about looking after all aspects of the buildings to ensure we offer a safe and comfortable environment for our residents,” explains Jayne.
Jayne has spent her entire career working in the hospitality industry, starting as a receptionist for the De Vere Hotels chain and going on to eventually run her own pubs and hotels. In between this she worked in London for Wetherspoons when it was just a fledging new business and worked closely with the founders to oversee the conversion of various buildings into the pubs/restaurants which are now synonymous in the UK.
Before joining The Millings and St John’s House, Jayne worked as a consultant for a holiday property management company in the North-East, looking after the maintenance and general upkeep of their five-star rated homes.
After the sad death of her husband, with whom she also worked with, Jayne moved back to North Yorkshire to be closer to her family and initially got a job as a Housekeeping Supervisor at The Millings.
But when the Pandemic happened, given her experience Jayne was handed even more responsibility, including overseeing infection control, and from here she became Housekeeping Manager and then Home Comforts Manager.
Now, she divides her time between each home, working closely with the two Managers.
“There are never really enough hours in a day, but I absolutely love coming to work,” says Jayne.
“It’s the interaction with the residents I like the most because at the end of the day, it’s all about their comfort.
“It’s their home and I want to make sure it’s the best possible environment for them.”
Outside of work Jayne enjoys rehoming former racing greyhounds as an active member of the Retired Greyhound Trust. She also helps with the care of her parents and keeping in contact with her son who works as a football coach in America.
