The Singing Carer

If you ask the residents at Roseleigh about Julie Harris, they will no doubt tell you that she is the singing carer.

That’s because Julie likes nothing better than singing to the residents during her shift, particularly the older songs which they recognise, such as Mother of Mine by Donny Osmond.

She has also been known to lapse into the odd dance too.

It’s all in a day’s work for Julie, who says she loves working at Roseleigh.

“I worked for 18 years as a teaching assistant in a school for children with challenging behaviour but I wanted to do something different and as I have experience caring for my husband’s parents, I thought working in residential care would be the job for me, and I was right.

“I love chatting with the residents and finding out about their lives and singing or dancing with them to lift their spirits when they are down,” she explains.

“That’s what I came into care for, and I absolutely love it here.”

Julie, who has two children and two grandchildren, enjoys walking and spending time with her family when she’s not entertaining our residents.

“I just put my ear phones and away I go,” she says.
