Adele Payne chose Lilibet Manor for her aunt, Amy Lord, after reading its inspection report by the independent watchdog, the Care Quality Commission.
The CQC inspects and grades all health and social care facilities in the country, including residential care homes, and then publishes the results.
“I was advised of three local care homes and from what I read about Lilibet Manor and the fact it had a “Good” grading, I felt it would be the best place for Amy,” said Adele.
Amy had been living on her own at her home in Rossendale following the death of her husband. She suffered a fractured hip in a fall at home and then struggled with mobility issues and stomach illness when she left hospital.
“We moved her bed downstairs and home care support were visiting regularly but Amy was becoming afraid and confused and would ring us or medics at all times,” said Adele.
“We were becoming worried for her safety and so felt it best she was at a care home where there would always be someone on hand to provide help if needed.”
Initially Amy, 93, was given an upper floor room at Crawshaw which overlooked woodland. She made a friend of another lady in an adjacent room, and they enjoyed watching the squirrels at the window.
But Adele felt something wasn’t right and discovered her aunt was afraid to use the lift and was becoming bored staying in her room all day.
“I was worried she would get depressed and raised this with the home,” said Adele.
“They listened to our concern and found Amy a bright airy room on the ground floor. It’s much better for Amy, she can use her frame to get out and about into the lounge and has a window where she can see all the comings and goings.”
Amy has been a devout member of her local Baptist Church all her life and when younger used to visit care homes herself to put on talks and entertainment for the residents.
“She has always been an active, intelligent woman and it’s important there are activities to maintain that healthy mind and body,” says Adele. “They had a singer and pianist in recently and she loved that.”
Adele added: “I’m very happy with medical care, they ring me and keep me informed of any issues.”
