When Renata Nadarevic and Eve Sanderson met and became friends at college, they would never have guessed they would end up being Manager and Deputy Manager at the same care home 21 years later.
But that’s exactly what did happen and now the best friends are responsible for the day-to-day running of Linson Court.
The pair went to the same college to study health and social care, with Renata getting a placement at Linson Court as part of her course.
With a short break in between, she went on work at the home for 21 years before becoming Manager in December 2022. Over that period, she did different roles, including cooking and cleaning but decided that caring was the career for her.
Several promotions followed and then, after gaining her Nurse Associate Degree, she was appointed to the position of Manager.
Having this variety of roles is something Renata believe has stood her in great stead.
She explains: “Because I have had experience of all the roles in a care home, I feel this makes my job as manager easier because I know what staff expect.
“I won’t, for example, give them a list of jobs to do because I know care homes don’t work this way as every day is different.
“Linson Court is like a home from home for me and ultimately, my approach is that we are employed by the residents to look after them. They are the bosses, and we need to do everything in our power to make sure they are comfortable, healthy, and happy.”
Eve followed Renata to Linson Court shortly after and followed a similar path in regard to her career development. She became Deputy Manager in December 2023.
Eve says: “Renata and I both still like to be hands on, and we don’t want to be seen as managers who stay in their office all day.
“Everyone works as team and that’s what makes Linson Court so special.”
