Accommodation and Facilities

St Johns House Residential Care Home was originally built in 1910 and the attractive Tudor style building has been completely refurbished to provide modern, luxurious facilities within a classic setting.

Situated in the stunning village of Kirk Hammerton, on the outskirts of York, this tranquil setting is home to 35 residents.

All the rooms are en-suite and residents can also access several lounges, dining rooms and reception rooms, as well as our amazing two acres of beautiful country grounds.

Our unique, inclusive care packages, for private fee payers, offer everything from personal grooming and family dining events to therapeutic and holistic treatments.

We also have a Resident Loan Fund which enables residents to keep a small personal float in the home so they can make small purchases without the worry of carrying cash.

And as we understand how important it is to feel connected to family and friends, we have a family WhatsApp group and a monthly newsletter tailored specifically to each resident.

Kay Rushworth is the Registered Manager at St Johns House and has worked at the home for 20 years.

Our Staff

St Johns House has a highly qualified, long-serving staff team who are committed to providing unrivalled person-centred care, ensuring our residents are safe, happy and comfortable in the home at all times.

Our Activity Programme

Our Wellbeing Team organise a weekly schedule of pastimes and entertainment to keep life fun and engaging for everyone. Each day is different, but activities can range from simple pleasures such as reading the morning newspaper or going for a walk in our grounds, through to arts and crafts, exercise classes, bingo, pamper sessions and live entertainment – the list really is endless!

We encourage participation in our activities, while remaining respectful and reflective of the overall wellbeing and interests of each person living with us. Ultimately, it’s down to personal choice.

Our Location

Thanks to our active relationship with the village communities of Kirk Hammerton and Green Hammerton, St Johns House has access to local amenities including a general store, post office and newsagent, public house, adult education classes, the Women’s Institute and local churches.

A well-managed care home with wonderful caring staff. Very clean and tidy and kept that way by the fastidious cleaning staff and maintenance team. The activities organizer makes sure everyone is included and works hard to make sure there are activities every day. The outside space is very well kept and a lovely place to be in warmer weather.

Mum has been a resident for four and a half years here, and I am glad that we chose St. Johns. The staff are caring and approachable and there is always some activity or trip out to keep residents occupied. Mum feels comfortable and well cared for, the house is extremely comfortable and clean with good food and companionship.

St John’s is well run and as a family, we are kept up to date on Mum which is very reassuring. Making this choice for my Mum was the best thing we did. We are so pleased with the care she receives and always with a smile.

St John’s House is an impressive property set in beautifully maintained grounds with summer houses, patios and plentiful seating areas for warmer weather. The home itself is tastefully decorated with a comfortable lounge, various dining areas, and seating areas with views over the gardens. Everywhere is clean, light, and airy and staff go above and beyond to deliver excellent care to all residents in a kind, friendly, and professional manner.

St Johns is a wonderful home with wonderful staff. Standards at St John’s are extremely high and the care is second to none. The staff goes above and beyond to provide a safe, warm, welcoming and loving environment and nothing is too much trouble. There are always lots of activities and opportunities to socialise inside and outside the home and the catering team are excellent.

Friendly and caring staff in a warm and welcoming home from home. The care that Mum receives is exemplary – not only from the front-of-house staff but from everyone on the team – housekeeping, catering, maintenance, etc. Nothing is too much trouble. We are delighted that we found such a safe and beautiful home.
