Keep our residents safe and well

Staff from Lilibet Manor recently underwent training run by the North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) which covered a range of key areas designed to keep our residents safe and well.

The training, which also included the Integrated Clinical Assessment and Treatment Service, Medication Management, Lifting Team and the Intensive Care Home Support Team, covered the following:

– iStumble – this is a health assessment app which takes Care Assistants through a list of health checks before indicating whether to lift the resident or call for an ambulance.

– Raizer chair – this battery-operated mobile lifting chair which lifts a fallen person off the floor in a matter of minutes.

– Clinical frailty – this is a nine-point ‘scoring’ scale used to assess a resident’s mobility, energy, physical activity, and overall function.

– Anticholinergic medicines – these drugs block chemical messengers to the brain, this can result in a new onset of confusion and issues with balance

– Wound care.

Around 30 of our staff at Lilibet Manor received the three-hour training and we are now busy putting what we have learned into practice at the home.

Francesca Ramsden, Clinical Lead Nurse at Lilibet Manor, said: “The training was extremely beneficial, providing us with an even greater insight into the cause of falls and other conditions which can affect our residents health and wellbeing.

“We have already implemented the information that was provided on this training, including calculating the Anticholinergic Burden (AB) score of each resident at Lilibet Manor so we can then assess their medications and if they need a medication review.

“This all forms part of the continuous training and development programme we have for staff at the home.”
