Leapt at the opportunity

When Mandy Strafford was given the chance to come to Manor Croft as a Wellbeing Coordinator, it’s fair to say she leapt at the opportunity.

Having performed a similar role for two years at our sister home Linson Court before then moving into admin, she knew exactly what the job entailed.

“I was missing the interaction with the residents and was keen to get back into activities, so I was delighted when the role at Manor Croft came up,” explains Mandy.

Working with her trusty volunteer Sandra, Mandy is focused on organising as many events as possible for our residents.

“It’s all about keeping them active which can be difficult due to mobility problems, but we devise activities which are suited to all needs,” she says.

“We also try to think outside the box and offer things which are new and varied, one recent example being a silent disco which went down very well because it was something even the bedbound residents could join in with.

“We’re also looking at animal therapy and of course we still have the traditional activities like bingo and chair-based exercises.

“Ultimately, it’s down to each resident on how involved they wish to get in activities, for example one lady enjoys her own company but likes to do jigsaws so we encourage that.

“But I said to this lady one day when we had a singer in that I would do her a deal and that if she didn’t like it, I would take her straight back to her room, but she absolutely loved it.”
