Led her into care

Sarah Marston worked in a factory when she left school, but she always remembered the work experience placement she did when she was at school, and this eventually led her into care.

“I worked in a day centre supporting people and I really enjoyed it; I just didn’t know until later that this is what I was meant to do as career,” she explains.

After leaving factory life behind, Sarah worked in a residential home in her home city of Bradford but having met her now husband, she relocated to Teesside to work.

She came to Roseleigh in 2021 and says it was a great move for her, as at her previous home she worked nights which wasn’t conducive to family life.

“I have a six-year-son, so now I have a much better work life balance,” she explains.

“In the morning I get up, walk the dog, make my daughter’s breakfast and take her to school, and I am always back in time to get her ready for bed, so it works well for me.”

Sarah says she was made to feel very welcome when she joined Roseleigh.

“Many of the staff have been here a long time, but they were really nice to me from day one and we are a very close-knit group,” she adds.

“We are all committed to ensuring the residents want for nothing and there is a real family feel about the home.”

When she’s not working, Sarah enjoys spending time with her family (she also has a 19-year-old daughter) and going back to Bradford to watch Bradford City Football Club.

“I used to go home and away and on my own too, but even though there’s not enough time to do that now, I still like to get to see them as much as I can.”
