A reason for her longevity

Alana Roughly has just celebrated a decade of working at Manor Croft and there’s a reason for her longevity.

“I like it here because of the lovely atmosphere, the staff and residents and we have a fantastic manager in Caron who everyone respects,” she says.

“We all work together as a team and everyone gets on with each other which is important because if you’re all happy the residents are going to be happy.”

Alana divided her time at Manor Croft between care and domestic duties, although at the moment she has been focusing on the latter.

This involves everything from cleaning the residents’ rooms and communal areas, through to emptying bins and cleaning windows.

“Many people work to survive but it’s not like that for me,” explains Alana.

“It’s about wanting to work in a place like this and caring for the residents we’re looking after and interacting with them.

“It’s always been more than a job for me and the way I look at it is I could be living at Linson Court one day and I would expect everyone to put their heart into their job.”

Outside of work, Alana is married with four grown up children and ten grandchildren so she is very much about her family, enjoys going out for Sunday lunch and generally just taking it easy.
