Our People – Sharon Heart

Sharon Heart has worked in care for almost 30 years and says she wouldn’t swap it for the world.

Luckily for us, Sharon, has worked at Queen’s Lodge for the last 15 years of her career and is popular with residents and staff alike.

Her ethos to care is simple.

She explains: “I treat the residents at Queen’s Lodge like they are my own grandparents. They are not strangers but amazing people with great stories to tell who you can laugh and cry with – just like you do with your own family.”

Sharon Heart says there is a great sense of community at Queen’s Lodge and puts this down to the staff team.

She explains: “Many of us have worked here a long time and have become friends through work; so that results in a great atmosphere within the home.

“We support each other and the residents, and it doesn’t feel like what we are doing is work.”

Sharon admits it has been difficult working throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, but believes staff played a very important role.

She adds: “It’s been upsetting for the residents not being able to have their family and friends visiting them in the home, so we have become surrogate families to them.

“And the families appreciate the support we have given to their loved ones during these challenging times, so we very much feel appreciated for what we do.

“It’s one of the many reasons why I wouldn’t work anywhere else than Queen’s Lodge.”

In her spare time, married mum-of-four Sharon, who also has three grandchildren, enjoys doing dance fitness classes and socialising with her friends and family.
