Kyomi Kershaw has worked at Manor Croft since she was 18 and is a great example of how we like to help our staff develop their careers and promote from within when we can.
In eight years, Kyomi has gone from being Carer, Senior Carer, Team Leader and now our Deputy Manager.
She actually started at our sister home Linson Court but having had her initial induction at Manor Croft, she knew our home was the one for her.
“Manor Croft just felt like home to me and although I liked it at Linson, when a job became available here I went for it and haven’t looked back since,” she says.
It was Kyomi’s husband (she describes him as her “biggest supporter”) who persuaded her to apply for the Deputy Manager’s role and she says she is really enjoying working with our Manager Caron and the rest of the team.
As well as all the admin/office-based tasks the job of Deputy Manager brings, Kyomi still provides care and particularly looks forward to our ‘down tools’ initiative which takes place each day and, as the name suggests, involves all office staff coming down to support the residents, normally at lunchtime.
Kyomi says: “Caring a is a great career and it’s something you can do with no qualifications and just learn on the job.
“I have my NVQ Level 3 and have just signed up to do my Level 4 so hopefully I am a good example of how you can progress in a job like this.”
Outside of work, Kyomi enjoys dog walking with her husband and generally relaxing, although Manor Croft is never completely off her mind!
“There’s something about Manor Croft which just draws you in,” says Kyomi.
“It’s where my heart is and where I will be until I retire, so I couldn’t be happier.”
