Janet joined St Johns House in May 2025, and we’re delighted to celebrate her as part of our series.
Born in Doncaster, Janet’s childhood was shaped by the war years. She vividly remembers her very first day at infant school in 1939, when the children practiced air raid drills by heading into the shelter to sing Ten Green Bottles.
Inspired by her Auntie Billie, a nurse at London’s ENT hospital in Golden Square, Janet pursued nursing herself. She worked at University College Hospital in London, achieving her dream and caring for countless patients over the years.
Janet has always loved nature, art, and music, and in her younger years achieved Grade 7 in piano. These days, she enjoys tea with a slice of cake and never misses an episode of The Traitors — made even more special because her granddaughter is the show’s editor!
Her best advice, both given and received, is timeless:
✨ “You can achieve anything.” ✨
She also reminds younger generations to:
💭 “Help others, and don’t focus only on yourself.”
Friends describe her as lovely, amicable, and caring — a fitting reflection of her nature. Janet’s story is one of inspiration, compassion, and resilience, and we’re proud to celebrate her
