John was born in Dormanstown and enjoyed a happy childhood before taking a brave step at just 15 years old — he joined the Navy. He served proudly for 7 years, an experience that shaped his character and gave him a lifetime of stories.
After leaving the Navy, John trained in radio and TV services, beginning a long and rewarding career. In his younger years, he enjoyed going to the pub and always finished the night with a Chinese meal — a tradition he remembers fondly.
When it came to films, John loved war and navy classics, stories that reflected his own experiences and interests.
These days, John enjoys a good cup of tea and is happy with both sweet and savoury foods. His life advice is simple but steadfast:
💭 “Just make your mind up and stick to it.”
Friends describe John as very approachable — a quality that shines through in his easygoing and kind nature.
We’re delighted to share John’s story as part of Faces of Constantia, honouring his service and his outlook on life.
