A major refurbishment of Lilibet Manor care home is underway with every bedroom in the building undergoing a major revamp.
The work on our home in Crawshawbooth, Rossendale, Lancashire, will also see the creation of a cinema room and new sensory spaces to help people with dementia.
We pledged to refurbish the home when we acquired it the end of 2021, and are now making good on this pledge.
Lilibet Manor consists of two adjoining buildings. The main building used to be a mansion owned by quarry owner John Brooks, (later to become Lord Crawshaw) who erected it in 1830. This part of the building is Grade 2* listed so any work carried out will remain sympathetic to the surroundings. This currently houses people with complex needs, including dementia.
An extension was added in 1995, specifically for people aged 18 and over with medical and/or physical disabilities.
The first piece of work completed is a new dining room in the older part of the building. This now includes a space for private dining so residents can eat with their loved ones if they wish.
A sensory space is also being added to this building, including a sensory wall and fish tank, with the aim of providing stimulation for people with dementia.
Each of the 50-bedrooms are also being refurbished, including new bathrooms, flooring, beds and furniture and other fixtures and fitting.
And a ten-seat cinema room will also be added as part of the enhanced activity programme planned for the home.
Emily Whitehurst, Constantia Healthcare’s Chief Operating Officer, said: “This refurbishment represents a major six-figure investment and is something we had earmarked as soon as we acquired the property. Our primary focus will be the main building to begin with.
“All the work will be done with residents in situ so we will be very mindful of the needs of the residents and ensure as minimum disruption as possible.
“We also have to work within the constraints of the listed building, but we are confident that when everything is complete, the home will look better than ever and provide an even nicer environment for residents and their families, an environment to be truly proud of and comfortable in”
In addition to Lilibet Manor, Constantia Healthcare has three other cares homes, two in Middlesbrough and one in Blackburn, and we have plans to acquire further homes in the coming years.
