Our Residents – Barry McQuade

Denise McQuade’s husband Barry has dementia with Lewy bodies. She tried to keep him at home as long as possible but he started getting lost whilst going out for walks, leaving the gas cooker on and generally getting confused, so that led her to chose Roseleigh to care for him.

She explains: “I met a social worker to discuss homes and she suggested Roseleigh as they have a specialist dementia unit. Moving him there was the hardest decision I have ever made but I was absolutely amazed at how beautiful it was. I also know a member of staff, Jackie, who has worked there a long time and that put me at ease too.

“All the staff are nice and friendly and whenever I visit Barry, I am always offered something to eat. The lunches are amazing.

“I know Barry is in the right place. He is safe and happy and receiving the very best care.”

Speaking about her experience during Covid-19, Denise says it was particularly difficult for Barry as he could not understand why she couldn’t visit him.

She adds: “Barry has a phone so with the help of the girls at the home, I was able to FaceTime him and whilst it was hard not being able to see each other in person, I knew he was in the safest place.

“There’s nowhere better than Roseleigh and the best compliment I can give is that I would be more than happy to book a room there for myself!”
