Our staff – Rebecca

When going to work does not feel like going to work, then you know you are in the right place, and that is exactly how Rebecca Brodie feels.

Rebecca is our administrator at Longlands. This is a wide-ranging job covering everything from general clerical duties through to more unusual tasks.

She explains: “The residents often ask me to do things like popping out to the shop to get things for them and on one occasion I even took one of the resident’s dogs to the groomer because he couldn’t as he had a hospital appointment.

“I do not mind though because I love working here. No day is the same and it doesn’t even feel like I am going to work each day.”

Rebecca worked in a shop and café after leaving school, but she always wanted to be an administrator, so she went ‘back to school’ and did an Apprenticeship in Business Administration.

This was a mixture of work-based and classroom learning, and she eventually ended up working in the office of a local logistics company.

But she says she has now found her home (literally) at Longlands and could not be happier.

Rebecca adds: “My Nanna had dementia and was in a care home, so it wasn’t a shock when I came here which made settling in much easier.

“Everyone is very friendly, and I enjoy chatting to the residents. It really makes their day so I could not find a better place in which to work.”

Outside of work, 27-year-old Rebecca enjoys spending time with her five-year-old son, family, and friends.
