Staff at Roseleigh care home who worked tirelessly to keep residents safe during the Covid-19 pandemic have been described as “exceptional” after winning a prestigious award.
Roseleigh scooped the title of ‘Best Care Team’ in the North-East regional heat of the 2020 Great British Care Awards.
The home, in Lytton Street, beat off competition from other short-listed care teams to take the award which involved a written entry, followed by a virtual presentation.
The winners were announced at a physical ceremony in Newcastle recently. These awards were held over from 2020 due to the pandemic.
The judges said of Roseleigh: “This team is exceptional. They care and support each other to ensure the wellbeing and happiness of the residents.
“They involve the residents in all aspects of their care planning and their passion and commitment to the residents is reflected in a very low turnover.”
The Care Team Award recognises staff who go above and beyond to ensure residents receive person-centred care and treated with dignity and respect at all times, recognising the importance that training and experience and team morale has on this.
Fiona Fewster, Manager of Roseleigh Residential Care Home, said: “The pandemic, particularly in the early stages of the lockdown, were easily the most difficult and challenging times we have ever faced, or are likely to face again.
“Despite having to adapt to new ways of working, it says a lot about our care staff that they never once wavered when it came to providing the care to residents and keeping them as safe as they could possibly could.
“We are therefore delighted to have received this award and would like to thank our staff for their efforts; they are a team in a million.”
On 25th September, Roseleigh, which is one of only a handful of care homes to be awarded a five-star rating from Middlesbrough Borough Council, will discover whether it has won the national care team title when the national finals are held in Birmingham.
