When Nicola Savage began working at Roseleigh her daughter Lydia was not even a glint in her eye and 20 years later, they are now both here.
Nicola is our longest serving members of staff, having started at Roseleigh when we first opened in 2000.
She says: “I did an NVQ Level 2 in Social Care and did some work experience in another care home which I enjoyed and I particularly liked listening to the stories the residents used to tell about their lives, so I knew this was the job for me.
“Roseleigh was brand new job when I joined, and I remember getting the rooms ready for the first residents to move into.
“It’s hard to believe that was 20 years ago!”
Nicola likes working at Roseleigh so much that she encouraged her 18-year-old daughter Lydia to join us.
She adds: “Lydia is pregnant so due to Covid-19 she is currently doing admin work, but it’s great having her working with me and I try not to be too bossy!”
Nicola says the Covid-19 pandemic and subsequent Government lock-down was challenging for everyone at the home but that “the good days outweighed the bad ones.”
“It’s a lovely home to be in because everyone gets on so well,” she explains.
“I couldn’t see myself working anywhere else.”
2020 was the year that Nicola and her husband Anthony both celebrated their 40th birthdays and they were supposed to go to New York to celebrate until Covid-19 meant that could not happen, but they are hoping to be able to do this in 2021.
Plus, she is also looking forward to becoming a grandmother!!!
