Jackie Golding was immediately sold on The Millings when the first thing she saw when walking through the door was a lady resident with a bottle of wine in her walking trolley.
“You don’t normally see that in a care home but here was this lady on her feet and clearly enjoying life and I thought this is the place for me,” she says.
Jackie has worked in care for 18 years, with ten of those years at The Millings, although she came into the sector much later in her working career than most.
She explains: “I worked in Woolworths in Richmond for 21 years and just before it was due to close, I decided to pop into my local care home to see if they had any vacancies.
“I thought I had always enjoyed serving people, I have a caring nature and wanted to do something else for people and residential care ticked all those boxes.
“I worked at that home for eight years but because it was residents with advanced dementia, it did become challenging and I realised I needed to do something different and that brought me to The Millings and the lady with the wine!”
Jackie started here in 2015 and due to her experience, she was immediately made Deputy Manager. Due to family commitments, after five years she gave up this role to become a Senior Carer where she was able to work less hours.
When the family commitments lessened, she became Team Leader and accepted the role of Deputy again in December 2024.
“Bryony had been promoted from Deputy to Manager and having worked well with her and knowing I done the Deputy job previously, it only took me a few minutes to accept the role,” Jackie explains.
“Bryony and I both have the same love for the home and we make a great team.
“I had been planning on retiring, but I am enjoying the new role much that I have now put this on hold indefinitely!”
