The key factor

The care she witnessed her dad receiving when he had terminal cancer was the key factor which encouraged Grace Whiting to work in residential care.

Grace used to be a support work for people with learning disabilities but has now been at Queen’s Lodge as a Nursing Assistant for the past five years.

“You do something different each and every day and it doesn’t feel like work,” explains Grace when asked what she likes most about working at Queen’s Lodge.

“I saw how good the care was for my dad when he was at the end of his life and it’s something that always stuck with me, and the standard of care is definitely like that here at Queen’s Lodge so I couldn’t have chosen anywhere better to be.” she adds.

Grace says she particularly likes to hear the life stories of the residents and would recommend working at Queen’s Lodge to anyone – in fact, she did just that recently when her partner Simon started at Queen’s Lodge. He is responsible for the day-to-day maintenance of the home.

“There’s a saying that if you love your job, you will never work a day in your life again, and that certainly applies to me,” adds Grace.

When she is not at work, Grace enjoys spending quality time with Simon and their three children, including going to the cinema and bowling.
