It’s fair to say that when it comes to being the manager of a care home, Jenny Swimby is well qualified!
With not one but two degrees in her pocket, along with a Level 5 in Leadership and Management, along with over 20 years’ experience working in care, she was the perfect choice for Manager at Lilibet Manor.
Jenny joined us in April 2023 and is responsible for the day-to-day running of our 46-bedroom complex care and dementia specialist setting.
She says she found her calling in care after starting cleaning in a small residential home for people living with dementia, then moving to home care and returning to residential settings and working her way up by completing all different jobs in a care home.
She has always been an advocate of continuous professional development.
Jenny says: “When I realised care was going to become the career for me, I was determined to better myself, so I went to university and gained a foundation degree in mental health and social care.
“I then did another degree in critical social care and policies and also achieved Level 5 and have worked my way from carer to senior carer and then into management along the way.”
Jenny says she was ready for the challenge of working in a specialist setting like Lilibet Manor who looks after people with dementia and complex needs such as acquired brain injury, mental health, and physical disabilities.
“This more than just a job for me; it’s a chance to play a part in changing the quality of life for people and in many cases help turn their lives around.
“We have a very passionate staff team committed to providing person-centre care tailored to each individual resident.
“And like me, they are committed to training so, for example, every member of staff has now been training in PROACT-SCIPr, so they know how to manage challenging behaviour in a person-centred way.”
